The Odyssey of Byzantine Studies in Turkey

Presented at ANAMED Gallery, The Odyssey of Byzantine Studies in Turkey traces the development of Byzantine studies in Türkiye from the late Ottoman period to the present. Combining archival documents, oral histories, interactive installations, and cartographic visualizations, the exhibition explores the institutionalization of the field alongside its evolving research methods, collaborations, and public engagement. Structured as a chronological journey, the exhibition integrates documentary material with digital interactives, allowing visitors to navigate the history of Byzantine studies through multiple forms of knowledge production. Many of the archival materials were presented to the public for the first time, offering a comprehensive perspective on the discipline's development over the past century.
