A Story of Self: Naile Akıncı

Presented at Müze Gazhane, A Story of Self: Naile Akıncı (1953–2013) was the first exhibition in a series dedicated to pioneering women painters of the Turkish Republic. The retrospective traced Akıncı's six-decade engagement with the landscapes of Eyüp and Pierre Loti, revealing the evolution of both her artistic language and personal narrative. Structured around seven chronological chapters, the exhibition combined paintings with archival photographs, critical texts, and immersive spatial installations that translated the artist's ways of observing and painting Eyüp into the visitor's experience. The spatial narrative positioned Eyüp not only as Akıncı's enduring subject but also as a landscape through which memory, identity, and artistic transformation unfolded across her practice.
